Learning how to do the windmill can be tricky for beginners. The windmill is a signature break dancing move that is pretty hard to do for beginners.
If you want to do this move properly, you'll basically need to coordinate and execute two different transitions with your upper body while keeping your legs locked and split open (as they swing up and under), even if it's not close to a full split.
- 1Get into the standard push-up position.
- 2Place your right hand on the ground beside your shoulder with your fingers pointing toward your head.
- 3Place your left hand under your belly button, pointing your fingers toward your feet.
- 4Place your legs shoulder-width apart.
- 5Support all of your body weight with your left arm and balance yourself.
- 6Raise your left leg two feet off the ground. Use your left leg and your right hand to propel yourself to roll onto the back of your left shoulder.
- 7Roll across your entire back using the momentum of your legs, keeping your legs spread and at approximately a 45-degree angle to the ceiling.
- 8Complete one whole rotation, and return to the starting position described in Step 1.
- 9Repeat all steps as quickly as possible in order to create a windmill effect with your legs.
Tips & Warnings
- Increase your arm strength with weight training for easier and more fluid motions.
- Consult a physician before performing this exercise if have you any medical conditions.
- Always warm up before physical activity and stretch afterward to avoid injury and maintain flexibility.
